"A PLACE YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE"

Hello and thank you for coming to my website.  It will change often.

I am  Barbara Jeffords and my goal is to provide you with information regarding my efforts at creating art that  you can enjoy in your home as prints, or originals, or in other decorative ways.  I also want you to come back often just to visit! There will be information about my art and life and interests. There will be links for you to explore if your interests are similar to mine.

The art will reflect the skills of the self-trained artist of the early decades of the U.S. from 1776 to 1820 or so.  At that time,  if a family wanted to decorate their home, they might commission silhouettes of the loved ones, portraits, murals or landscapes (including their own homestead, of course) painted by such itinerants as Rufus Porter.  Much of this work was colorful, but due to the self-taught skills of the artist, was lacking in modern composition, depth and scale.  But, oh, how those original works are sought after now! What prices they bring at auction now!

My attempts arise out of a desire to picture places I have been or would like to be.  The devotion my own father had to his painting led me to develop my own "primitive" style.  I am self-taught and so, perhaps, take after those itinerants in using my skills to paint in a natural style.

We will have links to places where you can view (and buy!) my framed prints. There will be offerings of my originals and special products only available on this website or the few shows I do throughout the year.  Those shows are Wooster, Ohio (Pinetree Barn's Williamsburg Festival), Cincinnati, and the Kane County Fairgrounds near Chicago, also Waterford, Virginia.

Vist the publisher and distributor of my prints, Heart of America.  You can't buy from them unless you are a wholesaler, shop or other vendor, but you can see the prints.  Do a "google" search on "Barbara Jeffords" and you will find some on-line catalogs and shops selling these framed prints or visit my "Links" page to locate some sites where you can view and buy.
